Plant Care

Rotala macrandra 'Japan' is best suited to aquarists looking to create vibrant planted aquariums. Medium to high lighting is required, while high-intensity lighting encourages the plant to develop its richest red and pink colours.

For optimum growth and colouration, a nutrient-rich substrate, regular fertilisation, CO₂ supplementation, and soft water are highly recommended. Under ideal conditions, the plant grows vigorously and produces dense groups of colourful stems.

To maintain a compact, bushy appearance, trim the longest stems approximately 5–10 cm above the substrate and replant the healthy tops. This encourages branching and creates fuller, more impressive groups.
