The appearance of Littorella uniflora makes it an easily recognizable plant in the aquarium.

It grows wild on lakeshores of Europe, North America and South America where it grows on the banks and in the shallow areas of very clean water bodies poor in nutrients and in calcium. It has not been used in aquascaping very often up to now. The growth habit of Littorella uniflora is unique, it has pointy round leaves, is a slow grower and throws runners. Very interesting as group or small lawn in the fore- and middle ground of aquaria, and it needs lots of light. The leaves are quite brittle, you ought to keep this in mind when working in the tank.

Each rosette is planted separately with a distance of a few cm.  They will readily send out runners. In time a very characteristic carpet of fat and fleshy leaves – each 2-5 cm long and 0,1-0,3 cm wide – will be created. Be careful when maintaining the tank, the leaves are easily damaged.
