Cryptocoryne × willisii, commonly sold as Cryptocoryne willisii, is a compact and hardy aquarium plant with narrow green to olive-green leaves. Its low rosette growth makes it particularly suitable for the foreground or lower midground of planted aquariums, including nano tanks and low-tech setups.

This Sri Lankan Cryptocoryne was formerly sold under the incorrect name Cryptocoryne nevillii. Once established, it produces underground runners and gradually forms an attractive, compact group of closely spaced rosettes. Mature plants generally reach approximately 7–20 cm tall, with individual rosettes around 7–15 cm wide.

Cryptocoryne willisii is an easy and adaptable plant that grows successfully under low to medium aquarium lighting. Additional CO₂ is not required, making it suitable for beginners and low-maintenance planted tanks. A nutrient-rich substrate or occasional root fertilisation will support stronger growth and runner production.

In vitro small portion

This product contains the full plant contents of one small in vitro tub. In vitro plants are cultivated under controlled sterile conditions and are free from algae, snails, snail eggs and common aquarium pests.

Please note that the plant will be removed from its original tub and carefully repacked for transportation. This reduces the parcel size and helps protect the plant during delivery. You will still receive the full plant contents of one small in vitro tub.

The portion can be gently separated into several individual rosettes or smaller groups before planting.

How to plant

  1. Carefully remove the plant from its transport packaging.
  2. Rinse away any remaining clear growing gel using clean water.
  3. Gently separate the plant mass into individual rosettes or several small portions.
  4. Plant the roots directly into a suitable aquarium substrate using tweezers.
  5. Keep the crown, where the leaves meet the roots, just above the substrate.
  6. Leave a small gap between each portion to provide space for runners and daughter plants.

Cryptocoryne plants should be divided into individual rosettes where possible, with the roots planted while the crown remains above the substrate.

Like many Cryptocoryne species, growth may be limited during the first few weeks after planting. Once the plant has adapted, it should begin producing new leaves and underground runners. Some older leaves may deteriorate during this adjustment period; leave healthy roots and crowns in place so that fresh submerged growth can develop.

Please note: The photograph shows an example of the product. The exact quantity, size, shape and colour of the plants may vary naturally. This plant is cultivated in a small in vitro tub but will be removed from the tub and repacked for transportation.
