Cryptocoryne Spiralis ‘Nari’ In Vitro

Cryptocoryne spiralis ‘Nari’ is an attractive form of the Indian Cryptocoryne spiralis, characterised by long, narrow leaves with a gently twisted or rippled appearance. Depending on lighting and growing conditions, the foliage can display a mixture of green, olive, bronze and subtle reddish-brown tones.

Its upright, flowing growth gives the plant a grass-like appearance and makes it particularly useful for adding height, texture and movement to an aquascape. It is best positioned in the midground or background, where established plants can gradually develop into an attractive group.

‘Nari’ is relatively easy and adaptable once established. It grows successfully under low to medium lighting and does not require additional CO₂, making it suitable for both low-tech and more advanced planted aquariums. Stronger lighting and good nutrition can encourage more pronounced bronze or reddish colouration.

Like most Cryptocoryne, it benefits from a nutrient-rich substrate or regular root fertilisation. Once settled, it spreads by underground runners and produces daughter plants around the original rosette.

Please note that the plants will be removed from its original tub and carefully repacked for transportation. This reduces the parcel size and helps protect the plant during delivery. You will still receive the full plant contents of one in vitro tub.

In vitro plants are cultivated under controlled conditions and are supplied without the usual snails, snail eggs, algae and other common aquarium hitchhikers.

The plant can be gently separated into several smaller portions before planting.

Plant care

Published cultivation information describes ‘Nari’ as a narrow-leaved, runner-forming Cryptocoryne suitable for low-light aquariums without mandatory CO₂ supplementation.

How to plant

1. Carefully remove the plant from its transport packaging.
2. Rinse away any remaining clear growing gel using clean water.
3. Gently separate the plant mass into individual rosettes or several smaller portions.
4. Plant the roots into a suitable aquarium substrate using tweezers.
5. Keep the crown, where the leaves meet the roots, just above the substrate.
6. Leave some space between each portion to allow runners and daughter plants to develop.
7. Use root fertiliser when planting into plain gravel or an older substrate.

Cryptocoryne plants can occasionally lose some older leaves after being introduced into a new aquarium. This is commonly known as Crypt melt and can occur while the plant adjusts to different water, lighting or substrate conditions. Leave healthy roots and crowns in place and maintain stable conditions, as fresh submerged leaves can develop.
