Alternanthera Reineckii ‘Rosaefolia’ In Vitro Aquarium Plant – Small

Alternanthera reineckii ‘Rosaefolia’, also widely sold as Alternanthera reineckii ‘Pink’, is a colourful South American stem plant with striking pink, red, magenta and bronze foliage. The pink undersides of the leaves provide an attractive contrast against green aquarium plants, especially when several stems are planted together.

This variety is ideal for adding a strong splash of colour to the midground or background of a planted aquarium. It develops an upright growth habit but can be kept shorter and bushier through regular trimming. Removing and replanting the growing tips also encourages the original stems to produce additional side shoots.

Medium to strong aquarium lighting is recommended. Better lighting encourages stronger red and pink colouration, while CO₂ supplementation and regular fertilisation support healthier, more compact growth. Tropica classifies this variety as having medium light and CO₂ requirements.

In vitro small portion

This product contains the full plant contents of one small in vitro tub. In vitro plants are cultivated under controlled laboratory conditions and are free from snails, algae and pesticides, making them suitable for planted shrimp and fish aquariums.

Please note that the plant will be removed from its original tub and carefully repacked for transportation. This reduces the parcel size and helps protect the plant during delivery. You will still receive the full plant contents of one small in vitro tub.

The plant may be divided into several smaller groups or individual stems before planting.

Plant care

Tropica records this variety as a medium-growing stem plant that commonly reaches 20–30 cm or more, with stronger lighting encouraging more intense red colouration.

How to plant

1. Carefully remove the plant from its transport packaging.
2. Rinse away all remaining clear growing gel using clean water.
3. Gently separate the plant into smaller groups or individual stems.
4. Plant the stems into a suitable aquarium substrate using tweezers.
5. Space the stems approximately 2–3 cm apart so that light can reach the lower leaves.
6. Trim the growing tips once established to encourage bushier growth.
7. Replant healthy cuttings into the substrate to create a denser group.

Tissue-cultured plants should be rinsed before being separated and planted into the substrate.

The leaves produced during tissue culture may differ in shape and colour from the new submerged growth. Some older leaves may deteriorate while the plant adapts to aquarium conditions. Maintain stable lighting, CO₂ and nutrient levels and allow fresh underwater leaves to develop.
